Property Tax Alert–Alabama

May 2004

Pending a vote, the city of Jacksonville in Calhoun County may levy an additional Alabama local property tax in an amount of up to nine mills on each dollar of taxable property in the city. If levied, revenue from the additional tax will be used for instructional education purposes. The increase will terminate unless approved by a majority of the voters at renewal elections held every 16 years in conjunction with elections for the mayor and members of the city council.
