Property Tax Alert: Florida

In any hurricane-affected county, penalties are waived for taxpayers who previously had received an extension and who are unable to file their 2004 Florida intangible personal property tax returns by the time that their extension expires on September 30, 2004. These taxpayers should file their returns by November 7, 2004. After November 7, taxpayers may request a waiver of penalties if they are unable to file because of the direct effects of a 2004 hurricane and if they provide appropriate documentation. Interest will accrue on any taxes not paid from July 1, 2004, the day after the original deadline of June 30, 2004, until the date of payment.
