In addition to pledging no new taxes in his first State of the State address delivered on January 19, 2005, Montana Governor Brian Schweitzer advocated changes in the Montana property tax on business equipment. He would remove the present phaseout provision from the business equipment tax and would make more businesses exempt from the tax by raising the threshold from $5,000 to $20,000.
