The phase-out of property tax on class eight (business equipment) property that was enacted by prior legislation has been cancelled by new legislation. The phase-out was to be contingent on a certain increase in Montana wages and salaries.
However, applicable to property tax years beginning after 2005, the cap on the aggregate market value of class eight property that may be exempt from taxation is increased to $20,000 (formerly $5,000).
