Property Tax Alert: Wisconsin

December 2005

The Wisconsin Department of Revenue has issued an announcement regarding an error they discovered in the data provided for the online filing system. This system is used by municipalities to calculate the tax increment for 2005 Wisconsin property tax rolls. The TID OUT equalized values used on the Tax Increment Worksheet for the county and for the municipality are wrong. The 2004 equalized values were incorrectly used on the Department's look-up table. Thus, the amount of the tax increment calculated on the Department's worksheet is also wrong.

The Department is updating the look-up tables and plans to reopen the online filing system on November 23, 2005. For taxpayers that have not already run their property tax roll, they can still recalculate the tax increment and levy the correct amount. However, everyone who has already filed the Tax Increment Worksheet online will have to file again.
