Property Tax Alert: Connecticut

Connecticut Governor M. Jodi Rell has proposed a property tax plan that would limit municipal property tax increases to no more than 3% a year, beginning with budgets that start in July 2008. Her plan would also apply to special taxing districts, such as fire districts. There are four exceptions to the Governor's plan: a grand list growth exception; a debt service exception; and override and emergency provisions.
