Auditing of personal property records by states and localities is on the increase. In response to the expansion of states that audit, Rash & Associates maintains a full-time department of audit specialists.
Many auditors wish to conduct their audits at the client's office. We desire to host the auditor in our office. We are generally successful in convincing the auditor to come to our office because we retain all the filing information and records needed. In the rare cases where the auditor insists on visiting a client's office, we work with our client's personnel to assist the auditor or we will send a representative from our office to assist in the audit process.
As our clients' property tax managers, auditors contact us with notification of pending audits. We coordinate the date and time of the audit, as well as which clients and properties are involved in the audit. We maintain all correspondence and requests made by auditors.
Rash retains all filing records for our clients. We, therefore, provide all necessary asset listings, explanations of classifications, and general ledgers to auditors.
Negotiate Discoveries and File Appeals
As auditors conduct their work, we engage in negotiations with them regarding our filing to minimize discoveries. If discoveries are made, we review the auditor’s findings and file necessary appeals. As with all other value appeals, we negotiate these to completion.
